Books : Finger Phonics: Books 1-7 (Jolly Phonics)Related Items:
Editorial Review: Parents, March 1994: 'Each of the seven colourful books features a selection of the 40-plus sounds which are found in the middle or end of a word - e.g. the combination 'oa'. Your child is encouraged to make an action for each illustrated sound while saying it. Sandy Chapman, a primary school teacher with three daughters, reviewed the books. She said, "My daughter Sarah, who is four, really enjoyed them. The idea of running your finger along the letters is excellent for teaching writing.' Parent's comments, Right Start, June/July 1994: 'The action and sound in the Finger Phonics books is very clever and caught Emily's imagination ... the books are attractive and sturdy enough to keep coming back to.' Teacher's comments, Right Start, June/July 1994: '... the books are very appealing. The children loved feeling the letters and each book ended with an appropriate activity to consolidate what had been learned.' Book Description: (Ages 3+) Cut out letter shapes show children's fingers the correct formation for every letter. The delightful illustrations include the action for each sound, and objects with the sound in the word. Each of the 16 page books covers a specific group of letters. Synopsis: Features cut-out letter shapes that show children's fingers the correct formation for every letter. Covers each of the 42 sounds as taught in "Jolly Phonics", this work includes the action for each sound, and objects with the sound in the word. From the Back Cover: The Finger Phonics books give an excellent start to both reading and writing The books show all the letter sounds of English, not just the alphabet, with an 'action' for each. There are cut-out letter shapes to show little fingers the correct way to form each letter and at the end of each book are 'finger activities' so that knowing the letters leads easily to both reading and spelling. ![]() Rating: - Perfect for your pre-schooler and beyondI would happily recommend this set of books for even the youngest of children. They are lovely and sturdy, with inset letter(s) on each page for your child to put their finger in and trace the shape, but most importantly they don't seem like an "educational" book to children! Even without focusing on the phonics element to the books, the pages are great fun to look at just for the pictures - there are recurring characters (eg a snake) which can be searched for on each page, and 2-4 ... Read More Rating: - Great BooksBoth my children have learned to read using the jolly phonic system. These books are hardback so stay in good condition. They also go hand in hand with the work book set (worth buying at the same time). Price is very reasonable considering that reading is one of the best skills a child can have. Rating: - Great Learning Books!!I am a big fan of these books. The series comes in a set of 7 books each with a small selection of different letters from the alphabet to learn. There are simple activities to do at the end of each book to round up what you have learnt. There are also cut out letter shapes to show little fingers the correct way to form each letter. My 4 year old son has got on so well with these I was amazed. The actions that go with the sounds the letters make, (eg. pretend to puff out candles and say p,p,p,p. ...
